MY BACKGROUND

I hold a Master of Music (MMus) from the Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, where I majored in music education while studying popular music and classical singing, piano, band instruments, and film composition. My thesis explored artistry and artistic thinking in vocal pedagogy. As one of the first Authorised Complete Vocal Technique (CVT) teachers in Finland, I graduated in 2009 and have further educated myself through studies in Estill Voice Training and Speech Level Singing. I stay updated by attending seminars, conferences, and reading current literature on voice, singing, art, and pedagogy. I have also participated in voice research projects and co-authored an article in the Journal of Voice with Professor Johan Sundberg.

As a performer, I’ve worked as a musical theatre artist at the Helsinki City Theatre and provided backing vocals for Nightwish, a renowned Finnish metal band. I’ve had the privilege of singing live on television for large audiences and sharing the stage with international artists like Lara Fabian. My performances span solo and collaborative projects, showcasing my music in genres such as pop, jazz, and rock both in Finland and abroad.

MOVING VOICE

Singing involves movement—whether it’s pitch, dynamics, resonance, or emotions. Moving Voice is an approach I’ve developed to help you understand and train your voice effectively. By combining my experience with the latest knowledge in vocal science, I offer practical tools to help you sing in any genre or style without straining your voice. With simple exercises, anyone can learn to sing in a way that feels natural to them. Moving Voice also focuses on enhancing your artistic expression and interpretation. I conduct workshops on this approach for singers and teachers alike, so
feel free to reach out if you're interested in organizing a workshop.

Testimonials

I have worked with Ville throughout my career, especially when I have had something specific to practice or to prepare for. I trust Ville 110%. I know that he can help me find new things about my voice. Warming up and strengthening my voice especially throughout my voice change was a very big and important thing for me. Ville had methods and exercises to help me overcome my voice change and make my voice even better. I have had a lot of help from Ville also for expression and interpretation. Ville has gave me tremendous psychological and technical support before important performances and recording sessions.
Isac Elliot, artist
I had lessons from Ville while I was working in Mamma Mia musical at the Swedish Theatre in Helsinki. It is easy and fun to work with Ville, he has a good understandning of the voice and how it works. He hears right away what you need help with and he makes it easy with fun and good exercises. One of the best things is that he can show, with his own voice, what he wants you to do so you can imitate.
Lineah Svärd, singer & musical theatre artist
I have had a long career as a singer in the Finnish National Opera. I contacted Ville to work on my popular music singing technique, especially high notes. Ville showed that an old dog learns new tricks, even surprisingly fast. Technical exercises were very useful while I performed the role of Phantom in Andrew Lloyd-Webber's musical Phantom of the Opera.

MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Everyone can be a singer and create music. The moment you sing your first note, you’re already on your way. As a singing teacher and music educator, I believe that everyone can improve their voice and singing skills. My goal is to support each person’s growth and help them reach their unique goals. Just like anyone can enjoy sports, everyone should have the chance to sing and make music—not just the professionals.

I value equality and critical thinking in my teaching. I encourage my students to take charge of their artistic choices, moving away from the traditional teaching model where the instructor tells them exactly what to do. While I have expertise in music and singing, my students are the true experts of their own voices and artistic expressions. I share insights drawn from my diverse musical background and provide tools to help them develop their skills and think critically about their craft.

Singing is a personal journey, and genuine communication often leads to the best results. That’s why I strive to create a safe and positive learning environment. In my studio, students are encouraged to do their best, and mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn and grow.

Join me on this journey of self-discovery through singing, where every moment offers a chance to explore new possibilities in your artistry.
